Lighting Designer
About the Studio
Lux Foundry is a growing lighting design studio dedicated to forging experiences through light. We approach every project with curiosity, craft, and a belief that light can shape how people connect with their surroundings. Our work spans hospitality, cultural, educational, residential, and landscape environments, each approached with the same commitment to design excellence and technical precision.
This is an opportunity to join an emerging, hands-on team where your ideas are valued, your growth is supported, and you’ll gain exposure to every phase of the design process. As part of this studio, you’ll work directly with the Principal Designer and play a meaningful role in both creative development and project execution.

The Lighting Designer contributes to all phases of design and project coordination, from concept through construction. You’ll help translate conceptual ideas into well-detailed, technically sound lighting solutions while developing your professional foundation through mentorship and collaboration.
You’ll work closely with senior staff to understand project goals, participate in internal design discussions and reviews, and take ownership of assigned tasks while maintaining clear communication and accountability. This role is well-suited for someone eager to grow in a collaborative, learning-focused environment where curiosity and craft are central to the studio’s culture.
Location: Remote (must be U.S.-based and authorized to work in the United States), with preference for candidates based in the New York City metro area to participate in in-person design reviews and local industry activities.
Responsibilities
Concept Development: Assist in developing lighting concepts, presentations, and visualizations using Photoshop, Illustrator, Indesign, and Bluebeam (Rhino and VRay a plus).
Design Support: Research lighting strategies, fixture options, codes, and best practices.
Technical Analysis: Perform photometric and lighting power density calculations using AGI32 and COMcheck.
Documentation: Prepare lighting plans, layouts, and details using Revit, AutoCAD, or Bluebeam.
Specifications: Assemble fixture cutsheets, schedules, specifications, and controls documentation.
Budgeting Support: Prepare lighting equipment budget estimates in coordination with manufacturer representatives and distributors.
Collaboration: Participate in design discussions and client meetings alongside senior staff, coordinating with architects, interior designers, landscape architects, and engineers.
Task & Time Management: Manage assigned tasks, monitor deadlines, and stay aligned with overall project schedules.
Communication: Stay informed and communicate with design team members to support ongoing coordination.
Construction Administration: Assist with RFIs, submittal reviews, site visits, and punch list documentation.
Field Engagement: Participate in site visits throughout design and construction to review existing conditions, support mockups, observe installations, and assist with aiming or punch list documentation.
